8.20 Young Workers

We shall ensure that any young worker at Amberley OSHC is treated with dignity and respect, and that particular hazards in the work environment are eliminated or minimised.

Relevant Laws and other Provisions

The laws and other provisions affecting this policy include:

  • Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Regulations 2011
  • Children and Young Workers Code of Practice 2006

Procedures

Young workers are defined as persons under the age of 18 that are employed by a business, organisation or charity to undertake specific work.

There shall be comprehensive selection processes when employing a young worker to ensure suitability for the role.

Young workers at Amberley OSHC shall hold every necessary qualification needed to work in a child care service (e.g. child safety blue card).

Young workers must be supervised by a staff member of Amberley OSHC at all times.

Young workers must be considered when all forms of risk assessment and work health and safety management strategies are implemented or reviewed.

All young workers shall receive induction in all workplace health and safety procedures and be provided with access to the documentation that supports these procedures.

Young workers must provide a commitment to keep themselves and others safe during their time spent at Amberley OSHC.

The Nominated Supervisor must ensure that a safe and healthy work environment is provided for young workers at all times.

The Nominated Supervisor must ensure that young workers receive encouragement and support from all members of the staff.
