5.7 Food Provided By Parents

Amberley OSHC shall ensure our practices for food storage and handling of food provided by parents are safe and will minimise the possibility of transmission of or contamination by harmful food-borne illness

Relevant Laws and other Provisions

The laws and other provisions affecting this policy include:

  • Education and Care Services National Law Act, 2010 and Regulations 2011
  • National Quality Standard
  • Queensland Food Safety Act 2006
  • Australian and New Zealand Food Standards – chapter 3 Food Safety Standards (Australia only)

Procedures

Food requiring cold storage will be transferred to the fridge in a timely manner.

All food will be checked to ensure that the food is not ‘out of date’.

No ‘out of date’ food will be served to any child.

Staff must advise the Nominated Supervisor when they consider a child’s food is unsafe.

The Nominated Supervisor or delegate staff member will discuss any issue of a child’s unsafe food with the child’s parent or carer.

Food provided by families for special occasions will adhere to Amberley OSHC’s policy.

Families will receive regular information of safe food handling practices.

All food will be checked for fish, seafood and/or nuts. Any food found containing these will be collected from the child and given to the parent/guardian at pick-up.

No food brought in from home is to be reheated whilst at Amberley OSHC. This is due to the bacteria build up that may cause illness.
